Background Information
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures are complex
and diverse. They are among the oldest surviving cultures in the world with
their origins dating back almost 50,000 years.
Australia is such a vast country it is incomprehensible to think Indigenous Australian’s living in or coming from remote areas would have the same cultural values, traditions and celebrations as their Indigenous counterparts residing in urban or coastal regions.
Due to the diversity of culture it is difficult to define specific aspects that are relevant to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. However there are a few key concepts and values explained that appear to be similar amongst a majority of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.
